| Abstract; The purpose of this study is to develop and to evaluate a digital multi-casting system for medical movies. The system can send out five MPEG-2 movies to 50 PC terminals at a time through an Gigabit Ethernet network; four movies of surgical operation and one movies of any kind of NTSC video sources. These movies are saved on a Video on Demand (VOD) system. So the users can watch one of the movies at any time through this VOD system. For the evaluation of this system, we investigate the flow of the network and the performance of Quality of Service (QoS), the delay of multi-casting movies and the resolution of these movies. These result in 6.9% of maximum network flow in transmission of 6 streams including 1 VOD stream and sufficient performance of QoS, about 380 milli-second delay and that the resolution of these movies has a sufficient quality as compared with a video tapes. From these findings, we think our system is useful for surgeons and has an enough quality for using patient surgical record. (author abst.) |
