Abstract; We sent out questionnaires on the quantity of radiographic images and the practical use of the images to affiliated hospitals of Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine. There were 56 responses to the questionnaire. There is a large difference both in the number of diagnostic imaging modalities and in the number of radiographic films between the hospitals, where the number of beds is more than 300 or not. There is also a large difference in the number of radiographic films among the hospitals, where full-time radiologists work or not. There is no hospital, which is running under the fully computerized radiological information system in our affiliated hospitals. By analyzing the responses to the questionnaires from the hospitals, we can clarify that the film-based radiological clinical routine is the money-losing system, if we take the purchasing expenses of X-ray films, the costs of developing and fixing of films, the cost of jackets for films and physical archiving of films, and so on into consideration at the present time. On the other hand, the film-less computerized radiological system is expected to be better than the conventional manner in the medical-economical effect. (author abst.)
