Abstract; We constructed and have been managed the data warehouse (DWH) for evaluation of hospital activity or support of clinical study since 1995. The data in the mainframe are transferred to the DWH in batch processing at night. This database has patient profile information, consultation and admission history, diagnoses, prescriptions, laboratory test results etc. Using this database, we could count the number of outpatients or inpatients with designated disease, and search the patient who took the designated medicine and so on. Although, the DWH was proved to be significant, we found some problems; data category in the database was not sufficient for elaborate analysis, thesaurus of some kind of terminology was insufficient, some part of the database structure was not suitable. Based on the experiences, we plan to reform the DWH, in which the data category is broadened, the thesaurus is made for all of the significant terminology, the format of the time field is unified in database files, the frequently retrieved data set are involved in one database file. After these reform, the DHW will be more functional and be indispensable for the hospital. (author abst.)
