| Abstract;Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an important angiogenic factors in vivo and overexpression of VEGF may contribute to the tumor angiogenesis and growth in pathological tissues. Recent data indicate that the signaling cascade triggered by VEGF involves nitric oxide (NO). In this study we examined VEGF and inducible nitric oxide (iNOS) mRNA expression changes by carbon beam in a rat normal liver and tumor liver which has been injected tumor cell line (MCA sarcoma) using TaqMan PCR. By carbon beam VEGF mRNA was reduced about quarter expression at 12 hours later and iNOS mRNA was increased at 3 or 6 hours later. These data show carbon beam inhibits angiogenesis and tumor growth at first, however increased iNOS may induces angiogenesis and tumor growth again. (author abst.) |
