Abstract; In the dose-escalation study of carbon iron therapy for stage I non-small cell lung cancer, 5 patients with radiation pneumonia were observed. The multivarent analysis was performed to determine the factors associated with the generation of the pneumonia. As a result, it was demonstrated that the % irradiated volume x GyE (carbon ion dose totally given to the lung) obtained by DVH analysis was statistically significant as a only one factor. The radiation pmeumonia must be caused by a combination of total dose and irradiated volume of the lung rather than by each of them. (author abst.)
