Abstract; In recent years, the virtual environments (VE) technology has rapidly developed and widely spread in various fields, while actualizing the problem of discomfort in and after using a VE system, for which measures to reduce and prevent the effect are strongly called. To discuss a method to evaluate the slight VE-sickness or the effect at a non-vomitus (pre-vomitus) level in simple and objective terms, we subjected 13 healthy adults to moving CG view point stimuli displayed on a 70-inch screen in a dark room for up to 15 minutes, collected data on the physiological responses including that of electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiration, and studied the relation between the indices thus obtained and the results of subjective evaluation of the discomfort levels. In this study, we observed characteristic phenomena that the slight VE-sickness decreases the respiration frequency and the mid-frequency components around 0.1 Hz of heart rate variability (HRV), which are different from the physiological patterns seen in other types of stress response. These indices can be used to evaluate the slight discomfort of VE-sickness. (author abst.)
