Abstract; We have been spending more time on interaction with computer systems in the information-oriented society. Human face-to-face interaction consists of both verbal communication and nonverbal communication such as facial expressions and gestures. Therefore we adopted facial expressions for human and computer interaction. We proposed a fuzzy reasoning model for selecting the face which expressed emotions caused by several situations. Nine faces with three levels of brow and eye deflection and three levels of mouth deflection were used to construct the fuzzy reasoning model in this study. The usefulness of the fuzzy reasoning model for selecting the faces through an experiment using a computer game as an example of the interaction between the computer and the user was discussed.
