Abstract; We report a case of each hidroacanthoma simplex and malignant hidroacanthoma simplex. Case 1 : A 36-year-old woman noticed a brown verrucous tumor on her left thigh. The tumor was diagnosed histopathologically to be hidroacanthoma simplex. Case 2 : A 76-year-old woman noticed a reddish brown plaque on her left thigh. The plaque was diagnosed histopathologically to be malignant hidroacanthoma simplex. We attempted immunohistochemical studies of the tumors. The tumor cells of both hidroacanthoma simplex and malignant hidroacanthoma simplex showed the same patterns of immunoreactivity as the epidermal eccrine duct luminal cells, however, CEA and S-100 protein were negative in hidroacanthoma simplex but they were positive in malignant hidroacanthoma simplex. The rate of positive cells for PCNA and p53 protein in malignant hidroacanthoma simplex was revealed to be higher than that in hidroacanthoma simplex. (author abst.)
