Abstract; We report here the case of multiple gouty tophi treated with surgical curettage. An 84-year-old male had a history of untreated gout for 10 years. He presented with multiple subcutaneous nodules on his toes that gradually increased with gait disturbance. He was treated with medical therapy to control the serum uric acid. Serum uric acid was generally maintained at levels (5.0-6.0mg/dl) for 4 months. But the gouty tophi were not removed. After the surgical curettage the gouty tophi were removed. The surgical curettage is of value in the treatment of the severe gouty tophi. (author abst.)
