Abstract; We report a case of spindle cell hemangioendothelioma. A fourty-eight year old woman presented multiple nodulues on the right heel which had developed gradually since about thirty-year-old. Histopathologically, the nodules were located in the deep dermis and consisted of cavernous vascular spaces, interstitial spindle cells, and epithelioid cells. Both spindle cells and epithelioid cells were negative for factor VIII-related antigen and CD34 immunohistologically. Thus we diagnosed the case as spindle cell hemangioendothelioma. Spindle cell hemangioendothelioma was first described as a low-grade angiosarcoma with features of both cavernous hemangioma and Kaposi's sarcoma in 1986. Recently, it has been recognized as a benign neoplasm or reactive lesion to repeated intravascular thrombosis, because there is no evidence of metastasis. (author abst.)
