Abstract;Peripheral blood lymphocytes from a 46-year-old male patient with contact dermatitis due to chloramphenicol were cultured with the specific antigen in vitro. The proliferative responses and the production of interferon-.GAMMA.(IFN-.GAMMA.) in the supernatant were increased by the specific antigenic stimulation. Interleukin(IL)-2, IL-4 and IL-10 in the supernatant did not increase. Peripheral blood lymphocytes from three healthy donors did not proliferate to the antigen and did not show increased productions of those cytokines. These indicate that effector T cells in the patient sensitized with chloramphenicol produce IFN-.GAMMA. and play an important role in the inflammatory reactions of contact dermatitis due to the specific antigen as T helper 1 cells.
