Abstract; We report a 27-year-old male with atopic dermatitis who died of infective endocarditis. He has been suffering from severe atopic dermatitis ever since he rejected all medical treatment, staying indoors for several years. He began to have high fever from April 16th, 1999 and was admitted to our hospital on April 22nd. Hemorrhagic macule was observed on the left distal thumb. Several nontender petechiae and hemorrhagic macules were also observed on the left sole(Janeway lesions). Hemorrhage macule under the fingernail looked like a splinter hemorrhage. Methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus(MSSA) was isolated from both of skin and blood cultures. He was diagnosed and treated for severe infective endocarditis complicated with disseminated intravenous coagulation(DIC). However, he died of cerebral hemorrhage on May third, 1999. (author abst.)
