Abstract; We report a case of superficial leiomyosarcoma. A 54-year-old man noticed a subcutaneous nodule on his left lower leg. This subcutaneous nodule had gradually enlarged and, six months later, became 2.5cm in diameter. The tumor was movable to the underlying tissues. Histopathological observation showed that the tumor nests existed from the upper layer of the dermis to the subcutaneous tissue. The tumor cells presented spindle-shaped figure with prominent nuclear atypia. Immunohistological analysis showed that the tumor cells were positive for both vimentin and smooth muscle actin but negative for desmin. Accordingly, we diagnosed this case as superficial leiomyosarcoma. Wide spread surgical excision was done and no recurrence and metastasis were found within 12 months. (author abst.)
