| Abstract;Results of screening for breast cancer by inspection and palpation at Nara National Hospital for seven years (1992-1998) were reported 40,301 women received this service and 137 cases of breast cancer were detected. The ratio of detected breast cancer was 0.34 percent. As the number of repeated comers had been increased, initial screeners and those who needed detailed examination has been decreased. Seventy-three breast cancers of T1 size (T1 size ratio: 53.3%) were detected through this mass screening and the breast conserved surgery which was convinced to keep much better QOL than mastectomy had been performed in seventy four cases of 137 breast cancers. The number of patients with breast cancer who had operations at Nara National Hospital were more than 100 cases a year since 1992. Nara National Hospital was recognized in the center of breast cancer hospital at Nara Prefecture and Kinki District. Management of Nara National Hospital has been improved and effectiveness of utilization of medical equipment has been kept high level by breast cancer screening at hospital. (author abst.) |
