| Abstract; In the Qing dynasty, a "simple-rangking type" color system was used for the government officials, instead of a "multi-ranking type" which shows the differences of the different social positions and sex. This essay aims to analyze the meaning of colors, the characteristics of coloring for clothes and examine the changing of wearing of idea of the Han Chinese in the novel "The Dream of the Red Chamber". 1) In Qing dynasty, the color of Han Chinese's formal clothes was the same as the government officials', which showed the influence of "simple-ranking type". 2) The "multi-ranking-type" color system was still kept in the casual clothes of Han Chinese. 3) But, in the novel "The Dream of the Red Chamber", the green color was written for upper underwear, while the red color was written for lower underwear was against the "multi-ranking type" color system. 4) The same color of casual clothes of the upper and the lower of Xi Feng and Bao Chai in the novel shows that Han Chinese's coloring for clothes was influenced by Manchu's robes.
