Abstract;Azobenzene containing amphiphiles having a urea head group were synthesized, and the spreading behavior of these amphiphiles at the air-water interface was examined. Characteristic monolayers were formed via bifurcated hydrogen bonds between the urea heads. It is found here that the shape of .pi.-A isotherm changes regularly depending on the even-odd carbon number of the spacer. (author abst.)
