| Abstract; We have designed and synthesized artificial receptors called Steroid Cyclophanes, each constituted with cyclophane, amino acids, and steroid moieties. The monolayer properties of the Steroid Cyclophane and binding of aqueous fluorescent guest to the monolayers at the air-water interface were investigated. As a result, the aqueous fluorescent guest was included in the cavity of the Steroid Cyclophane depending on compression state of the monolayers. The guest inclusion was examined upon repeated compression-expansion of the monolayers. Experimental results on surface pressure-area isotherm and surface fluorescence measurements indicated that the guest inclusion could occur reversibly upon monolayer compression, leading to development of a novel function of pressure-optical conversion.
