Abstract;We have found that a blue-shifted band at around 505nm is formed in the mixed LB films of the merocyanine dye (MS)-the arachidic acid (C20)-n-octadecane (AL18) ternary system. The blue-shifted band is assigned to an H-aggregate based on the energy shift, the spectral shape and the in-plane anisotropy of the band. We have found that the formation of the blue-shifted band depends on the molar mixing ratio of AL18 added as the third component, indicating the change in the MS aggregation state. In this presentation, we discuss the aggregation number and the configuration of MS in each aggregation state using the point dipole model and the extended dipole model. (author abst.)
