Abstract;It has been suggested that 229Th nucleus has an anomalously low-lying isomer state (229mTh) of 3.5.+-.1.0eV. The excitation energy corresponds to 350nm ultraviolet photons. It has been estimated that about 1-2 percent of the total .ALPHA. decays of 233U feed into 229mTh. We separated 229Th from 233U with anion exchange method, and tried to detect ultraviolet.GAMMA.-rays from 229mTh and determine the half-life of 229mTh with a low-noise photomultiplier. (author abst.)
