| Abstract;155Gd Moessbauer spectra for the coordination polymer GdFe(CN)6 4H2O (I) and KGdFe(CN)6 3H2O (II), in which [Fe(CN)6]n- units are bonded to Gd3+ through CN-, are measured at 12 K. The isomer shift (.DELTA.; relative to the 155Eu/SmPd3 Moessbauer source) and quadrupole coupling constant for I are 0.61 and 4.24 mm s-1, while those for II are 0.54 and 4.49 mm s-1. The Moessbauer parameters suggest that both complex have the same coordination geometry of GdN6O2. The small difference in the value of .DELTA. suggest that the electronic state of Gd3+ would be slightly affected by the oxidation state of iron ion. The electronic state of Gd3+ might be also affected by the chemical species included in the cavity of the crystal structure, i.e., water (I) or water and K+ (II). (author abst.) |
