Abstract;A 31 year old male had applied a topical corticosteroids prescribed by a near by doctor known since infancy. He began to withdraw from this steroid in January 1997. He had suffered from a rebound phenomenon for half a year and subsided after that for a year and a half without resuming the steroid. He moved to a newly built house in May 1999 and rapidly aggravated his dermatitis. He was hospitalized for the purpose of escaping any environmental cause for one week and his condition improved immediately. But his eczema relapsed soon after being discharged. He tried to ventilate his house better and thus resulted inraing his eczema is improved. The results of the examination of the housing environment revealed a high content of formaldehyde gas, up to 0.22ppm, in the air indoors after having the house closed for six hours. His blood examination, however, showed a negative result to formaldehyde specific IgE and a negative result to the patch testing to 1% formaldehyde. (author abst.)
