Abstract;Formaldehyde is thought to be the cause of so called "sick building syndrome". Formaldehyde might also be one of the many causes of atopic dermatitis in some patients. In this study, we measured formaldehyde specific IgE antibody in 152 atopic dermatitis patients. 25 of them had a history of symptoms that worsened after moving into a newly built building. The formaldehyde specific IgE antibody values do not show a statisitically significant difference between these 25 patients and the others. This suggests that formaldehyde does not work directly with the IgE mediated mechanizm or that it does not affect atopic dermatitis symptoms. (author abst.)
