| Abstract; We conducted a 48h closed patch testing with 6 topical medicaments developed for treatment of dry skin on 370 patients with skin diseases. The 6 topical medicaments were as follows: A) 10% urea cream, B) 10% urea in W/O ointment, C) 5000 unit vitamin A in O/W ointment, D) 10% urea ointment, E) 20% urea ointment and F) 8% seramide cream. The subjects composed of 253 cases pf atopic dermatitis (AD) and 117 cases of non atopic dermatitis (non-AD). The skin irritation index of A was 11.5 on AD and 14.1 on non-AD. B was 28.9 on AD and 28.6 on non-AD. C was 24.7 on AD and 15.4 on non-AD. D was 27.3 on AD and 22.7 on non-AD. E was 11.1 on AD and 6.9 on non-AD and F was 20.7 on AD and 12.0 on non-AD. We concluded that we have to select safety products for patients with AD by screening patch testing, because several moisturizing topical products have the possibility to irritate atopic skin.
