Abstract;This paper outlines characteristics (progestasert,LNg-IUS) of levonorgestrel (LNg) slow-releasing intrauterine system (LNg-IUS) and the application to the long-term management of hypermenorrhea and dysmenorrhea. The comparison of clinical effects between LNg-IUS and copper added type IUS, and the long-term management of hypermenorrhea and dysmenorrhea by LNg-IUS are described. LNg-IUS atrophies the endometrium, and markedly improves hypermenorrhea due to hysteromyoma and adenomyosis of uterus, and associated dysmenorrhea. In addition, LNg-IUS is effective as corpus luteum hormone combination therapy in postmenopausal hormone substitution therapy.
