Abstract; The compatibility between high speed stability and curving performance has been difficult for railway trucks. Various self-steering trucks have been developed in order to improve steering ability besides keeping high stability and some of them are now under practical use. The curving performance mainly depends on friction characteristics between wheel and rail. Friction modifier, which is developed recently, is able to control the friction characteristics. In this paper, the authors analyze the curving performance with friction control by simulation and experiments. Finally a new method to improve curving performance with friction control was proposed.
