Abstract;This paper describes experiments whose arrangements were estimated according to elastic FEM contact stress analyses in consideration of actual state of wheel/rail contact and carried out using a large rolling contact test machine. The variation of wear profile and wear amount of gauge face due to attack angle of wheel to rail have also investigated. In addition, the residual stresses for rail disc were also measured, and these results were compared with residual stress on the numeral analysis by elastoplastis FEM. Based on the results of experimental investigation on the gauge face, the attack angle has a significant effect on gauge face wear. (author abst.)
