Abstract;A method has been created to optimize design parameters using three-dimensional CFD to analyze the internal flow condition of a flat torque converter and one-dimensional angular momentum theory. This method has been used to design a torus and blade configuration which reduce flow loss and to optimize the specifications of the stator, which has a great effect on the characteristics of torque capacity factor. This has allowed development of the thinnest super sqaurshed torque converter for mass production in the world without sacrificing torque converter performance. (author abst.)
