| Abstract;A system for the high-speed production of useful metabolites by plant and microbial protoplasts with artificial cell walls was developed. This novel system solves the problems of conventional production systems using cells. In this paper, three features concerning the development of the system are introduced: (1) development of an apparatus for determining the optimum conditions for protoplast isolation from cells, (2) the elucidation of alginate as an elicitor, and (3) development of the actual system.
