| Abstract;Image Save And Carry(IS&C) was planed to be an off-line information system for transmission and exchange of medical images and information between a medical facility's different divisions as well as between other hospitals. The IS&C Committee developed the IS&C standards that defined the file format for magneto-optical disk, the data format and representation of image. Its merits were the media compatibility and data security. The Ministry of Health and Welfare(MHW) showed the technical requirement for the electronic storage at March 1994. For electronic storage, the Medical Information System Development Center(MEDIS) common standard that satisfied the MHW requirement was opened to the public at November 1994. The MEDIS started to approve the media, the magneto-optical drive and the filing system. There are approved 8 discs, 7 drives and 61 systems. What the IS&C committee have done is to make the first standard for the electronic storage and to developed the electronic storage concept that includes the security mechanism and the compatibility. But the IS&C standard and the MEDIS standard lacked the flexibility of the security mechanism and could not spread among hospitals and healthcare environment. In future, the activity of the standardization for the medical image and information will be succeeded by the committee. (author abst.) |
