The aims and the policies taken were as follows. 1) It is necessary to construct a special department that can plan, develop, and work computer systems continuously and stably, because the management of both computer systems and medical information is very important for the management and the progress of our hospital. 2) Specialists are necessary who have the abilities of integrating medical information systems with computer and communication technologies. 3) Specialists are necessary who have the abilities of checking and evaluating the contents of the medical records. 4) Combination of computer specialists and medical record administrators is necessary for computerized medical record systems. These aims and policies are and will be valid in the coming era of computerized medical record systems. The department consists of two sections, one deals with information systems and the other deals with management of medical records. The staff of the department must have one of the competences qualified by the Information Technology Engineers Examination or the Medical Record Information Administrators Examination. The most important roll of the staffs is to integrate the optimum IT and to construct a hospital information system networking with other medical organizations and to contribute for realizing medical services of high quality.
