Abstract;A patient has his own course after the first visit to the hospital. One patient has a course as follows: 1) admission to hospital, 2) undergoing surgery, 3) being discharged, 4) end of medical treatment. Another patient has another course as follows: 1) admission, 2) undergoing surgery, 3) dying. In this way, all patients are classified into some groups according to medical courses. Our objective is to show that this way to classify patients is useful for characterizing departments. (author abst.)
