Abstract; When the hospital order entry system was introduced in the Kanazawa Medical University Hospital in 1997, we collaborated our laboratory information system to take the order information on-line from the hospital information system without using any paper items. However, the accuracy of the order information taken into the laboratory information system deteriorated compared with the former system using a paper form of ordering and OCR. Eventually, the staffs in the clinical laboratory had to confirm and correct for the order information. When the hospital information system was introduced and/or the specifications of that system was changed, the laboratory information system repeatedly sent the past result data spanning several years in conjunction with the new format, in order that medical doctors can view them. The laboratory information system is in collaboration with the hospital information system and independent from the latter system. Moreover, the laboratory information system was developed by the staffs in the clinical laboratory. These features make our system more flexible even if the specifications of the hospital information system was large changed, without changing major job in the clinical laboratory. Our system also enabled the prolonged usage of the data. (author abst.)
