Abstract; The rudder roll stabilization system (MARCS: Mitsui Advanced Rudder Roll Control System) enables a remarkable roll reduction control with heading control using rudder during navigation. Such research has been made frequently in Europe and United States and has proved effective in war ships and patrol boats. However, in Japan there are few of such examles. Our company occupies the dominant position in developing this system, and over 20 units including experimental ones have been so far developed by us. The rudder roll stabilization is obtained by keeping the rudder angle to cause the couple of force counter to the ship's rolling during the navigation. This system is simply consisted of operation part and controlling part. Therefore, stabilization operation is possible only by connecting the pilot stand. The actual sea trial resulted in about 30-50% of roll reduction. Simulation test also indicates that the selection of a rudder with higher rudder lift and higher rudder angle speed is necessary for further improvement of roll stabilization. (author abst.)
