Abstract;A new objective image quality evaluation method for noise has been developed based on a pertinent application of a cooperative human vision model which can simulate accommodative responses and various kinds of perceptual responses theoretically. In order to examine its effectiveness, the method was applied to noise evaluation for patch images output from a digital copier. The following results were obtained: (1) it was theoretically predicted how the human vision system responded to the patch images' noise; (2) the method's quantitative noise evaluation results for the patch images agreed well with subjective judgments. These results suggest that this evaluation method is effective as a noise metric based on responses in the human vision system. (author abst.)
