| Abstract; The lecture will review methods for the determination of both kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for reacting systems from isothermal heat conduction microcalorimetry. There will be an emphasis on applications of importance to the Pharmaceutical Industry. Parameters that can be determined, even for a quanitatively non-characterised sample are: order of reaction; rate constant; enthalpy change, equilibrium constant; Gibbs Function change; entropy change; activation energy. The use of the imidazole catalysed hydrolysis of triacetin as a test reaction for such microcalorimeters will also be discussed as will the use of such a reaction in "trouble shooting" in the interpretation of output data.
