Abstract; There are a number of theoretical problems with applying Modulated DSC in the melting region of polymers. These include the non-linear response of the melting process, loss of steady-state, difficulty in applying phase-lag correction and the change in separation of the total signal into the heat capacity and kinetic components as modulation conditions are changed. Although all of these issues and concerns have made it more difficult to interpret MDSC data in the melting region, they do not interfere with the many illustrated benefits of the technique including its ability to detect much smaller differences in crystalline structure than can obtained with DSC.
