| Abstract; This study assessed rehabilitation programs for the elderly provided by home care nurses and identified the needs of nurses to improve the quality of care. Sixty-two bed-ridden elderly clients who agreed to joint this study were surveyed on their activity level and content of rehabilitation programs by home care nurses'. The clients' activities of daily living(ADL) were either rank B, those who can leave bed occasionally, or rank C of entirely bed-ridden. Home care nurses provided more frequent physical training for developing range of motion(ROM) and muscular strength than ADL exercises. ROM training was provided to the clients of all levels on ADL and of serious paralysis on upper and lower limb. Exercise of muscular strength was provided to those of independent ADL. They provided training of sitting position for developing ADL to the half of those who were in need. Sixty-one percents of the nurses had consulted with physical therapists(PT) or occupational therapists(OT) about rehabilitation practice. The most useful advice for the nurses received from them was about making an effective program for the clients and training techniques. The results suggested systematic consultation with PTs and OTs should help home care nurses improve their rahabilitation care. (author abst.) |
