Abstract; We investigated spawning habit of smallmouth bass, Micropterus dolomieu, recently introduced into Nojiri and Aoki Lakes located in Nagano Prefecture. Four observatory areas were compared spawning sites in terms of environmental conditions. Spawning sites occurred contagiously, where water depth at spawning site and distance from shore to spawning site were variable based on the observatory sites. The contagious distribution of spawning sites in this species was explicable by the preference of spawning substrate and cover material. We propose a method to eradicate eggs and/or larvae of the smallmouth bass from the artificial spawning ground equipped with a set of appropriate substrate and cover. (author abst.)
