Abstract; The effect of water temperature on the oxygen consumption rate and limiting oxygen level for existence of the blacktip grouper, Epinephelus fasciatus was investigated on individuals from 200 to 745g in body weight. Water temperature for the experiment ranged from 12.5 to 30.0.DEG.C. with 2.5.DEG.C. intervals. The oxygen consumption rate(R:ml/kg/h) of the blacktip grouper increased exponentially with an increase in water temperature(T:.DEG.C.), following the equation, R=5.3611*1.0913'T'. On the other hand, the relationship of oxygen consumption rate per individual(R'=R*W:ml/ind./h) from 15.0 to 25.0.DEG.C. as it related to body weight(W:kg) and water temperature(T:.DEG.C.) could be expressed by the following equation, R'=25.4585W+1.3027T-22.9348. The limiting oxygen level for existence was ranged from 0.26 to 0.93ml/l. (author abst.)
