| Abstract;Feeding experiments were conducted to investigate whether it was necessary to supplement minerals to fish meal based feed for yellowtail and Japanese flounder. Phosphorus(P), magnesium(Mg), zinc(Zn), or manganese(Mn) was excluded respectively from the complete mineral mixture. The mineral mixtures were formulated to the fish meal based experimental diet. The experimental diets were fed to the yellowtail(1.7g on average) for eight weeks and Japanese founder(1.9g on average) for five weeks. The growth of yellowtail was reduced significantly in the fish fed the diet without Zn or Mg supplement. However, influence of excluding Mn supplementation on the growth was not observed. The growth of founder was slightly lower in fish fed the diet without P. Zn and Mn contents in fish were influenced markedly by unsupplementation of Zn and Mn respectively in both species. When yellowtail and Japanese flounder were fed the diet without P,Mg,Mn, or Zn supplement, their growth and mineral composition in carcass were influenced. The results of the experiment suggested that availability of minerals contained in fish meal for yellowtail and flounder was not high, and it was necessary to supply minerals even to fish meal based feed.
