Abstract; While the engine rooms of ships are equipped with fire extinguishers of such types as carbon dioxide and high foaming for whole area extinguishing, it is expected that a treaty becomes operative for installation of local fire extinguishing systems as of July 1, 2002. The treaty is applicable to all passenger ships of 500 gross tonnage and above and all freighters of 2000 gross tonnage and above that will be built and be engaged in the international voyage on and after the date. As fuel spray fire spreads fast, and it is difficult for crew members to extinguish such fire, the purpose is set at enabling initial fire extinguishing with the areas limited to where possibility of ignition is high to prevent such situation as sinking. The titled system radiates water-mist of uniformly spread fine particle micro fog (a trademark of Yamato Microteec Corporation) of 50 to 200 .MU.m. This paper shows such descriptions as an outline of specifications, system constitution, and operation flow of the equipment, and presents such items as the experimental results of fire-extinguishing.
