Abstract;The control of outgas from polymer material is of importance in hard disk drive application. To reduce outgas, heat treatment to polymer materials is widely used with several process control methods. This paper discusses the application of DSC in heat treatment process control of polyurethane elastomer used in hard disk drive. Endohermic behavior obtained by DSC reveals correlation with test results of weight loss test and GC analysis, which are widely used for outgas evaluation. DSC takes advantage over weight loss test and GC analysis from the viewpoint of operatoinability and speed of evaluation. (author abst.)
