Abstract;Zn2+-cyclen complexes selectively recognize thymine(T) nucleotide in aqueous solution at physiological pH, and its aromatic-pendant derivatives selectively bind to T in double-stranded DNA. They selectively bind to TATA box, in promoter region of eukaryotic RNA polymerase II genes, and inhibits the transcriptional factor, TATA binding protein. These T-recognizing Zn2+-cyclen complexes are a new type of small molecular "genetic tanscriptional controlling factor". (author abst.)
