Abstract; The interaction of metal complexes of bisimidazoliumporphyrin(Zn-1, Cu-1) with DNA was examined by Vis, induced CD and MCD spectroscopies and viscometric measurements. Binding of Zn-1 or Cu-1 to DNA is entoropically driven while that of H2-1 is enthalpically driven. Furthermore they interact to poly(dAdT)2 as strongly as CT-DNA and poly(dGdC)2, suggesting that not only Zn-1 but also Cu-1 interacts selectively with the A-T base pairs of DNA. (author abst.)
