Abstract; We synthesized oligopeptide-trihydroxamic acids as models for desferrioxamines using N-hydroxglycine and D-, L-alanine, and proline. The chirality and sequence of the amino acids and the atom-spacing between the hydroxamate groups strongly affect the complexation ability of the peptide trihydroxamic acids with Fe(III), the stability of the formed complexes, and their configuration around the metal ion.
