Abstract; We reviewed 30 eyes of 29 patients with central exudative chorioretionpathy during the past 10 years. The series comprised 9 males and 20 females. The ages ranged from 19 to 47 years, average 34.2 years. Photocoagulation was performed in 10 eyes based on fluorescein angiographic findings. The choroidal neovascularization was obliterated in all the 10 eyes but resulted in central scotoma and poor visual outcome. The other 20 eyes underwent systemic medication beased on indocyanine green angiographic findings. These 20 eyes resulted in favorable visual outcome but showed recurrences in 5 eyes (25%). There was a lesser incidence of submacular fibrous proliferation in 10 eyes treated by systemic tranilast. The findings show that tranilast may prevent submacular fibrous proliferation in this disease entity. Photocoagulation may be indicated in active and recurrent cases based on indocyanine green angiographic findings. (author abst.)
