Abstract; This paper proposes an artificial system to regulate gene expression, which has been inspired by chromatin remodeling in biological system. The complex between plasmid DNA-lactose conjugate and .BETA.-galactose-specific RCA120 lectin was constructed as a mimic of chromatin made of DNA and histone. of the plasmid-lactose conjugate was repressed by RCA120 and the recovered by adding lactose or lactose-carrying polymer to the repression system, whereas such repression by RCA120 was not observed in native plasmid DNA.
