| Abstract; The light-harvesting(LH) complex from photosynthetic bacteria was self-assembled on the ITO electrode modified with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS-ITO). The LH complex was reconstituted with Zn-BChl a (Scheme 1) using the LH polypeptides, separately isolated from photosynthetic bacteria in OG micellar solution, showing the subunit-type complex when the LH .BETA. only was used and the LH core-type complex when LH .ALPHA. and LH .ALPHA..BETA. were used, respectively. These complexes on the APS-ITO were characterized by NIR absorption and IR spectra, implying the assembly of the LH complexes on the surface of the APS-ITO. The NIR absorption spectra showed the Qy band of Zn-BChl a complex at 820nm when the LH p only was used, at 858nm when LH .ALPHA..BETA. were used and at 864nm when LH cc only was used, respectively, consistent with the data in OG micellar solution, and the IR spectra showed the amide of .ALPHA. helix of the LH polypeptides observed at 1550 and 1650cm-1.
