Abstract; We report to control of dimerization of crown ether appended porphyrins and N-confused porphyrin(NCP) triggered by addition of metal ions. Crown ether appended porphyrin and NCP was synthesized and its spectroscopic studies have revealed the formation of face-to-face porphyrin and NCP dimer by interactions with potassium ion. In the presence of axial ligand (4-(dimethylamino)pyridine; DMAP), the absorption specrtrum of cobalt porphyrin derivative shows no change upon addition of potassium ion. The formation of face-to-face dimer is inhibited by DMAP. This result indicates that the dimerization of the crown ether appended porphyrin can be controlled by axial ligation. (author abst.)
