Abstract;Photodynamic therapy(PDT) for cancer cell of mouse (EL-4) was carried out using metal-halide lamps, and the effect of the lamps on the PDT was investigated. 5-aminolebrinic acid (5-ALA) was used as a photosensitizing agent. Tumoricidal ratio of EL-4 increased with the total irradiation energy at 630-670nm wavelength and reached almost 90% at about 100J/cm2 of the total irradiation energy. Moreover, the tumoricidal ratio with UV lamp at 400-410nm was greater than that with visible light of 630-670um. In addition, the tumoricidal ratio with intermittent irradiation was found greater than that with continuous irradiation at the same total irradiation energy of light. On the basis of these experimental results, metal-halide lamps are considered to be effective for PDT of tumor tissues. (author abst.)
